Can past surgery scarring hurt me during sex?

When I was 12 I had an ovarian cyst and by the time the doctors figured it out I was having exploratory surgery I have three scars one right above my vagina one bellow my belly button and one on my side, last night I was having sex with my boyfriend and all of a sudden I felt a sharp pain right where the scar bellow my belly button is and I had never had it before and in certain positions it hurt worse. Did I have the sharp pain because he went to deep or because of the scarring? or could there be another reason? I just really need to know because it is really painful and scaring me from having sex with him again.
