Someone used my ID to obtain a rogers cell phone plan. I haven't signed any contracts or anything but they still are placing me responsible for the contract. Can rogers do this?
Make them prove it. Unless they have a signed document, they cannot enforce the contract. You will have to fight them on it, it's not to their advantage to solve it speedily.
One thing that can hold you up is verification of the deal. If you accepted and paid any bills on that account, they can use that as evidence that you agreed to the debt.
They are only going by what they know. You have to file a police report and submit copies to the company then they should have the phone discontinued from use. Then you also have to prove that you were not the one using the phone this may be a little difficult but you can do it. Obtain phone records from calls placed on this phone and contact the people keep this phone list for evidence that you are not making the calls There will be a lot of paperwork and legal submissions involved here but you can be free of the unauthorized charges.
