Can T-mobile sims work in AT&T phones ?

I really love this at&t phone & its just PERFECT ! my parents promised me a phone & they said they'd consider this one i had in mind. then they decided to keep my old t-mobile sim card instead & told me to pick out a t-mobile phone. the phone of my dreams is what at&t provides but my parents suggest the t-mobile phone.

The only way to solve this problem is to have a t-mobile sim card work in a AT&T phone. Can this be done & has it ?
