can the cops find me if i download from internet illegally and put me in jail?

i live in LA, and a friend told me that if i download movies and music a lot from sites like rapidshare, or megaupload... the cops can find me and stuff.. is that true??
 
i have downloaded over 2000 gigabytes of stuff ILLEGALLY, and i haven't been caught yet...i think that the worst thing they can do is fine you up the ass...i suggest only downloading stuff that you really want, so that there is less of a chance of getting caught
 
Well i use frost-wire and its alot safer. A bunch of my friends got in trouble because they got caught using lime wirewire. Im not srapid-sharepidsmega-uploadgaupload, but frostwire is the safest.

yes. but it's highly unlikely. unless you download about 100 gb a day. but if your internet provider notices you using a lot of bandwith, they will probably turn off your internet and report you. and it's a federal offense, not a state one. so you would be arrested by the FBI, not the local cops

I think they might. But it's hard to find. And piracy is illegal.
But you souldn't download them illegally.
