It won't necessarily be confusing. It's not a mortal sin to split up your introduction, but make sure that you have a really good reason for doing it. Splitting it up just for fun is not a good idea. If you're dividing the intro paragraph because it is getting too long (which I assume is the case), then make sure there isn't anything you could cut out. If you really think it should be split, then go ahead and write the rest of the essay (all the way to the conclusion) and then go back and look at it and see if it makes sense. If you still think that it works, then go for it. If it doesn't sound right or it seems to drag, then put it back in to one paragraph. Remember, the major purpose of the introduction is draw the reader in to your argument. Some readers may get through the first paragraph and if they can't see your topic or argument, they will put the paper down and give up on it.
