My boyfriends roommate watches a lot of internet porn on campus, and we've both told him that he can get busted for it, but he swears he can't.

Who is right?
He watches it in his room on his personal computer.

BUT we don't have wireless, we're on the school network, and they can monitor how much spaces we're using and what not.
I just really don't want him to get busted or anything, because he deserves to be here.
Alright, he is here right now so I can get information from him.

He said, "I don't download it or save it or anything. I just watch it on youporn.com"

if hes watching porn thats copyrighted and illegal and saving it on his computer that is illegal and i know someone that got busted for 3000 copyrighted songs on campus. they could have pressed millions in law suits but settle for 3000 dollars. if he pays for the site and isn't stealing there should be no problem.

Not in your own room you can't.

If he's watching it in the Library or something, that's a problem.

The answer is no. However, if you decide to go porn crazy and start downloading large files, such as from utorrent or Kazaa, most schools limit bandwidth use and if you use too much, you could get in trouble.

Unless he is watching it in a public place, he is right. No one will bust him.

EDIT: No, they will not bust him, but they are probably monitoring him. If they wanted to, they would simply block the IP addresses for those sites.

EDIT2: Don't worry about it, they will not do anything to him.

If it is on the school computers, then yes. They have you agree to the Computer Usage Agreement Policy when you first log on.

I would check the policy he agreed to when he signed up for the school.

Yes if it deals with minors and he's watching it in public.

May depend on the school too.

watching it on the school network, Yes he can. If they monitor the computers, then most definitely.

Yes, if it's in the college's contract that he signed when he enrolled. And chances are, it's in there - all colleges have restrictions on how their internet can be used by students, and almost all prohibit pornography. If he keeps it up, he'll definitely get caught- and then he'll be expelled, have a huge black mark on his college record, lose all of his tuition money, and have a very hard time being accepted into another college.
