Can you hallucinate from smoking banana peels?

I've always heard about this, but never tried it. I'm not even sure I want to.... what's the real deal? Is there a pschoactive chemical in the peel? if so, what is it?

but...really, you shouldn't try. looking for ways to get high is deadly.
 
well, for a long time people thought that you could, after William Powell wrote in the Anarchist Cook Book, produced in 1970. It became an urban legend but researchers at New York University have found that banana peel contains no intoxicating chemicals, and that smoking it produces only a placebo effect. Over the years, bananadine has become a popular urban legend.
