Can you help me fix my VCR/DVD combo?

I have the Super-Multi DVD Recorder/VCR with Digital Tuner. The problem is that every time I plug it in to watch a dvd/vhs I can't because it will not stop saying hello and the dvd disc keeps on opening and closing on it's own.
