I know blu-ray is 'backwards compatible with DVD/CD but the HD-DVD is a whole different animal. Thanks in advance for your help!
Thanks for the info. The reason I ask is because I just bought a blu-ray player, but one of my favorite movies was released on HD only and I read online that the studio has no intentions of releasing it on blu-ray. Anyway, thanks again

unfortunately no blue ray and hd dvd are different companies and wont work with each other. blue ray seems to be coming out on top though so stick with blue ray

No you can't. At some point there WERE players that were specifically designed to play BOTH formats but not any blu-ray player can play hd-dvd.

Hd-dvd is being phased out by the way, so don't buy anything related to hd-dvds.

Nope---That's why they release a HD-DVD version and a Blu-Ray version of the movies (usually). If they worked on either one, why make two different versions? One day, it will be either one or the other, but for now............the battle rages on........
