Can you please help, I need to get my car back?

I was kind enough to let this lady make payments on my 85 bronco, I gave her a full month to pay it off. Today is the last day and she won't pay up. We told her that she needs to return the car, and she refused, now we can't find the car. The police won't report it as stolen because she made partial payment. I don't want to be liable for any crashes or anything. I am the registered owner. What should I do, I am in california
I wrote up a contract and she signed it. Police still won't do anything.

You should have signed a contract in writing, and kept a spare set of keys and the title until she payed off the car fully. A contract would have forced the police to look for the car. All you can do now is try your hardest to find the car, and the old lady. Watch her house.
