I usually find aliens or robots unappealing, but find them in this case a symbol for something else, and really like it. The only thing I would change is the ending. Perhaps there is some symbolism in it that is explained in the book, but I can see where you going, but not totally understanding it. I think you should also use this as an allegory, with both the humans and the aliens representing different sides of human nature.
