happened to me at the library? I'm thinking that I could turn this into a story. It involved me losing my wallet. I got my wallet back without anything being stolen, but the story is bizarre. I'll change my name to protect my identity. I'll be Alex Means. Here it is:
I went to the library. I was wearing shorts without pockets so I was carrying my wallet in my hand. I sat down at a table to read and set my wallet down on the table next to the book I was reading. After some time I left the library without checking out any books.
About an hour later I got a call from the library saying that I left my wallet there. I didn't even realize that I had left my wallet there until she told me. I absentmindedly left it on the table. The lady said that I could come down then or they could hold it for me and I could pick it up the next day. Since it was nearly closing time for the library, I told her I would claim it the next day.
The next day arrives and I go down to the library in the afternoon. I walk up to the desk and tell the one librarian who I am and that I was the one who left my wallet there on the previous day. This is where it gets weird:
She said, "Someone already came here today and claimed it".
I stood there incredulously, and asked her if she was joking.
She said, "No" in the non-humorous, unamused manner typical of librarians.
I told her, "I'm Alex Means though. How could someone have claimed it? Didn't you scrutinize them a little or compare them to the driver's license photo?"
She seemed embarrassed at her blunder and she realized that she was totally responsible for handing over my wallet to the wrong person.
I asked her what the person looked like. I tried to think of who it could possibly be. Then I thought,"Whoever it was had to have known my name in order to walk up to the desk and ask for a wallet using my name. They also had to have known that I left my wallet there and that the library was holding it for me and that they could claim it by asking for it. How did they know my name and how did they know that I had left a wallet there and that they could claim that wallet?"
It gets even weirder:
Just then, as I was standing there perplexed and trying to figure it out, a guy walks into the library. He looked agitated and like he was really upset with someone else prior to coming in to the library. He said,"Is this your wallet?" as he handed me my wallet. I took it and immediately looked inside and saw that everything was still in there, nothing stolen.
Then the guy said to himself, "That dumb-***! I told him! That idiot! I'm gonna go kick his ***!" as if he were referring to someone else. Apparently someone else had taken the wallet and he was returning it. I didn't get to ask him any questions because I was so dumbfounded. He stormed out of the library as if he were going to go ream out the guy who was standing outside. There was another guy standing outside the building and I guess that was the guy he was referring to. He walked out of the library but then the two guys just walked away and I'm not sure where they went.
That ended the whole fiasco and I've never been able to come up with any explanation for it.
That actually happened. I'm asking if you can come up with a story that continues from where that ends. You have to address the questions that were raised and come to some conclusion, sort of like Sherlock Holmes.
