Can you use bleach in the dishwasher to wash dishes?

I had some dishes sitting in the sink for a few days, the water was rancid and gross. I wanna put some in the dishwasher to clean it. Can I use a cap full of bleach with my normal dish washer powder detergent? I dont really need it, but I wanna make sure its as sanitary as possible and i put it on the long cycle so it would surely all get washed off and wouldn't be a threat. Thanks :)
