Canadians travelling to Florida next month with Telus cell phone, how can we

avoid a huge cell phone bill? Last year we made calls with our cel phone from Florida to Ontario and vice versa (received calls from Ontario) and when we got our bill it was over $500.00 for two weeks. Roaming charges were outragious. Any advice would be greatly appreciated even if it means purchasing another cel phone in Florida. Surely it would still be cheaper than last year.
