Cancun is a safe travel spot now right?

I told my dad that after I graduate college this May, me and a friend are planning on going to Cancun. And then, as usual, he started trying to ruin to bliss of my plans to get away and he was saying that it isn't safe right now. Now, last year I did hear about stuff that happened in NORTHERN Mexico, but I've never heard anything about Southern Mexico being dangerous.

But could he be right? Do you think it would be a good idea to travel there in May? And also, do you know how we could get a good deal?

It's always been safe as long as you do not venture out too far away or do something stupid. Of course there are many dangerous places in Mexico but I am sure places like Cancun and Cabo are not among them. I don't know why there is this fear about being in Mexico. Are folks watching too much coverage on the drug war? I can tell you that Cancun is no Juarez, and cartels could care less about some tourists.

Yes I know a lot of ppl who went during Christmas break and no one of hurt- they all enjoyed it a lot!!
