cannot install win xp sp2?

my friend installed windows xp sp3 four months ago. i do not have a win xp sp3 cd but a sp2 cd. i recently noticed that my pc is running slow, because i tried so my system optimizers to run win xp sp3 properly, because i installed win xp sp3 on 7 gb hdd space, although i have empty two 20 gb partitions. i want to reformat my system and to install winxp sp2 on one of these partitions. when i tried to install \win xp sp2, my pc send me the following error "disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter" even though i have made win xp sp2 cd as a first boot device. i do not see any message like "press any key to boot from cd". my installer cd is clean and new.
