Can't stream divx videos on my mac?

Hello, I'm a mac newbie, and I cant figure out to get my macbook to stream any divx-type videos (or veehd, etc).
When I press play, the videobrowser goes blank, nothing happens.

I'm using a Mac OS X, version 10.7

I have tried
- re-installing divxplayer/divxwebplayer for mac
- running safari in 32-bit mode
- installing older versions of divx
- installing a veehd plugin
- installing perian

Any suggestions?
