Sony are the world's most valuable consumer electronics company (in terms of market value), with market capitalisation worth 6.64 trillion yen. Third? Electronics powerhouse Matsushita (ie Panasonic), at 6.23 trillion. So who's second? Little old Nintendo, who have overtaken Matsushita and now stand at 6.3 trillion yen, or $51 billion dollars. That's despite Sony and Matsushita having over eight times the sales of Nintendo, what with them selling all kinds of stuff like TVs and cameras and DVD players. Which Nintendo doesn't.
This is also despite Sony's shares rising 72% over the last two years. Of course, it helps that Nintendo's shares have almost quadrupled in the same time. Guess this blue ocean thing really is working, huh? Those old folks and soccer moms really help push the old bottom line. Luke Plunkett
