...sinful nature? I ask this question in regards to John 14:13-14 and 1 John 3:21-22
Is it appropriate to pray consistently that God remove my sin nature?
Is that in His will for us for the sin nature to totally be removed?
I ask because the saints of scripture discuss the sin nature as a daily battle to resist.
And even in Christ, He resisted the enemy and the enemy went away for a time but returned again.
Would it be appropriate to ask God to remove the sin nature totally? Is that God's will?
Out of all the things we pray to our Heavenly Father for in request, some request being things Christ has already mentioned as things we are to die to - how is it not appropriate to ask our Father to remove one's sin nature?
Please consider Romans 6:1-11
Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
"1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."

"11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace."
So with Paul's literal statement (not figurative) in Romans 6
It does appear to be a very appropriate request - To ask God to remove
one's sinful nature - Knowing that we are not to keep on sinning - and that
you can do nothing of your own will buy by God and through Christ
