Nobody likes to see the kind of injury that happened to Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Eric Foster with about a minute left in the first half of the Monday Night Football contest between the Colts and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It was one of those plays where a mass of humanity is moving in the same direction, someone twists over someone else, and all of a sudden, you have an ankle that is turning very much the wrong way, which is what happened to the fourth-year player from Rutgers.

Suffice to say that it's one of those injuries that causes a stadium to go eerily quiet and players from both teams to pray for the man in the middle of all that pain. Foster got his leg trapped under teammate Tyler Brayton during the play, and as both players went down, something happened that is not for the squeamish to see.

The amazing thing about Foster wasn't his injury as much as it was the way he went off the field — after he was placed on the cart and his right leg put in an air cast, he exhorted his Colts teammates to fight on and took handshakes from the Buccaneers as well. It was a striking moment from a guy who was certainly in excruciating pain, and had to be thinking about his future as a player.

Foster was taken to a hospital in Tampa and kept overnight for observation. Our thoughts are most definitely with him. The Colts lost the game, 24-17, and fell to 0-4 on the season, but that isn't the memory most will take from the game.
