I recently did some work to my cpu. I changed the motherboard, processor, ram, and hard drive. I am running windows XP. Here are my specs:
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130217
Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115206
Video Card: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/202
Sound Card: The sound card is on-board with my motherboard. I installled the drivers from the CD that came with my motherboard.
I am running windows XP with 3 GB of DDR2 Ram. I recently installed half-life 2 and I had no problem installing it. When I start the game, it runs beautifully. The graphics are amazing. However, after about 2-5 minutes the computer randomly restarts. It only does this during high-profile video games (Games that require alot of graphics) It doesn't make any beeping sounds or clicking. It just restarts as if someone pressed the reset button. I did the following:
1. I reinstalled the game
2. I lowered the video settings within the game (Lowered graphics)
3. I checked directX (I have 9.0)
4. I ensured the video card driver was up-to-date.
5. I updated the on-board sound card driver (With a CD for the motherboard)
6. I turned off the on-board sound-card (Using the bios screen) and rebooted the game (When I do this it crashes before the game even starts)
7. I checked the temperature. (The computer is running about 70-80F)
8. I changed the screen resolution
9. I updated the game using Steam (Half life 2 engine)
I can only imagine that either my sound card or my video card is not working properly. Again I must say that it works fantasticlly before restarting. Unless my video card is broken, I really don't want to buy a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions?
