Could this be the flu not feeling well at all?

Hi, I have an appointment for later today but just wondering in advance if this sounds like the flu? For the past four days I have had a bad sore throat and cough. My mom got it too but she went to the doctor's yesterday and has an ear infection. Anyways I can't sleep at all. I am shivvering and feel warm at the same time. I have a temp 100.6 F. I keep coughing and chest pains too. I just wondering if I should call off work first thing even though my appointment is later in the day. I really don't want to go into work feeling like this. :( Thanks for advice...
