The system loses track of them anyhow. It's every other day there is an incident in the news where a registered paedophile has popped up living next to children or working in close contact with children and they system had no clue... even more disturbingly the parents/families in the area had no clue. I understand the idea that it drives them underground... but I think it's foolish to rely only on a big state apparatus for this. I tend to question the whole underground thing anyhow... if they're in the system and can go underground so easily... then obviously the system is broken. That being said I do appreciate the hard work police do... but the fact is they can't be all places at all times. And if there is an increased awareness of an individual or in a lot of instances... many individuals that are sex offenders/paedos living in one area/apartment complex etc... then I don't see how it can be a good thing to limit this information to the general public. Certainly not for the families that have to live in those areas. It certainly worked for my friends family. They had a whole lot more peace of mind by moving to a different area - one with less paedophiles and one without several paedophiles living in the same complex. That right there tells me it is working. Again - if we go the route of oh this doesn't work because of vigilantes... then there is a much much bigger problem at hand than just a name and shame list. On this I tend to agree.
