Hey everyone, my dad is 51 now, an just smokes and drinks everyday. He's a nice guy, even when drunk and caring, an usually just drinks because he has a hard time conversing when sober, just not use to it. He only gets drunk late at night with my mom, then they just go sit out by the fire. I mean honestly, him and my mom are still real close, and everything is good, only that that concerns me is his health. I know he's been smoking and drinking a lot, mainly because during that time of night, is when he can forget about how crappy life is. I mean, me his son, age 20, I'm always out taking care of stuff, but he has to worry what I'm doing, then my sister who is 18, who's always out, sleeping with a lot of guys apparently, and just being sneaky and using him. One thing about my dad though, is that he's very much like me, stubborn. You can't tell him he has a problem with drinking or smoking, and I can't just go, "Dad I love you, I don't want you to smoke or drink." lol. I wish it were that simple though. I just wish there was someway to make it so he didn't have to be so unhappy, and I wonder if that's even it. Like, if I were to get rich, make it so he didn't work, would he stop drinking and smoking? Or would he just lay around more, an drink/smoke even more? My biggest fear out of all this, is losing him, not yet. I really could not bare it. My question is, how bad is his health? I mean is there more dad's who are like him, an live a good age? I don't want him dying at 60. Also, if possible, what are some ways to secretly make him happy, and possibly encourage him to accomplish more things at life, an not feel like it's the end? ((Secretly, because if I were to try an talk to him about this so he would do it, that would just result in leaving him in a akward situation, an him feeling that I'm not impressed with him.))
