Darko Milicic has signed a contract with the Boston Celtics. After being amnestied by the Minnesota Timberwolves, it was unknown whether Milicic was going to stay in the NBA or go play basketball overseas. His signing with the Celtics ends that suspense.
Milicic, the draft bust of historic proportions, is still only 27 years old. However, he’s coming off of one of his worst seasons. The Timberwolves had high hopes for him going into the season but he struggled — averaging just 4.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per game.
On the Celtics, Milicic should have a legit role. His main strength is defense — and that’s the No. 1 focus of Boston’s team. On top of that, the Celtics lack bigmen in the middle. At 7-feet and nearly 300 pounds, Milicic certainly has the bulk to bang with anyone.
