Hi, I am currently looking at getting a little mate for my dachshund (8months). My concerns are that I'll get a dog that might change her personality..like an older dog. Is this true, can a dog's personality change a lot when you get another dog that's a little bit older. My current dog is a house dog and she follows me around everywhere, very lovable and playful and intellegent. Option one: An older dog that needs rehoming (she's not that old...but i'll just say old coz she's not as young is my current dog). The "older" dog is 2.4yrs old. She's very alert and a little bit of a barker when she sees somebody walk pass but I'm not too concerned about that. The other thing is, she's a bit dominant when it comes to food...thus will eat food quickly and go for other dog's food..so if i decide to get her, i'll most probably have to feed the two dogs separate. She had 2 litters before (just mentioning), is a bit of a barker, food dominant and a champ show dog and I will continue to show her. Her current owner has fell very sick and thus the only reason for rehoming her. and the other option is to get a dog that is the same age as my current dog (8 months) with more or less the same temperament. The only thing is, this dog will cost about $850 (discounted amount as I know the breeder, thank goodness but I still cant really afford it) I would just like to know if you had a simular situation, if you adopted another dog, did he/she change your other dog's personality, or any advice that you can give would be much appreciated. Please no rude comments, i cant write a noval so just focus on what i'm asking here. If you need more info, just ask and i'll add it. I have my current dog at interest and just want to get her a mate. I'm also keen to show so the other dog for that reason would also be a good option, but how does dogs react to a new dog in the house or do their personalities change when you get another dog. (I've always had one dog in my life (17yrs) and when she passed i promised myself that when i get another dog, i'll get her a friend) Thank you in advance for your replies.
