No....you cannot do this to the level you'd need.
You'd have to severely heat the magnet....strike it very hard repeatedly, or a combination. None of which would suit your case; now would it reduce the mag field enough to help.
You could try putting a piece of lead sheet, or stainless steel over that part of the magnet...that might help.
That's the best that can be done.
