In NBA free agency this summer, perhaps nobody was more wanted than Deron Williams. And for good reason. He’s one of the best point guards on the planet. When he’s not directing traffic, he’s hitting teammates with pinpoint passes or scoring the ball on his own. For Team USA, Williams is going to play a key role.
Williams’ size, shooting touch and ball-handling skills make him a fantastic fit for the international game. While he’ll probably play mostly point guard for the Americans, his size allows the coaches to put him at shooting guard to add more ball-handlers on the court.
While Williams has never been known to be a defender, he’s shown a surprising amount of intensity on that end of the court when playing for the United States men’s basketball team.
