My laptop took a fall from the couch. It's not that far, only the battery fell out and everything seems to working ok, except that now the dvd-rw drive doesn't read. It's still 'working' I think, because it still whirls and lights come on when you pop a cd or dvd in, but the computer doesn't even read that there's a drive. Last time something like this happened the drive was still visible on the device manager. Now it's completely gone so I can't even try reinstalling the driver. itunes and WMP are telling me that there aren't any cd-drives in the system. :( btw- I was watching a dvd when it took the fall. so it definitely was working before the fall, but not after.

Now what? Should I take it to a tech of some sort? Or give it up for lost? HP has lacking customer service as it is and warranty is dead. Geek squad? Does anyone know a price estimate for just taking it in for a check-up?
