Hi! I've just figured out how to convert divx files to dvd format. I was wondering, when converting a 1gb divx avi file to dvd, will I noticed a significant improvement in video quality when using a 8.5gb dual layer dvd+r as opposed to a standard 4.5gb disc?

Nope, none at all. All dual-layer does is increase the max. capacity. It does nothing for the quality.

The only scenario where dual-layer helps is if you've got a movie file/files that is more than 4.7GB. In that case, you'd have to use compression to fit it onto a single-layer disc, which degrades the quality. So, any move less than 4.7GB will go onto a normal DVD w/ no loss of quality.

No.

DivX (XviD) et all are "supercompressed"
you can "upconvert" them to HD video, but you will not get any improvements in quality

(It is like a photograph 256 colours from 16,500,000 colours
it may look like an original photograph somewhat - but you can never have your 16.5m colours back
