Do i have to download the media update everytime i want to play divx...

...videos on my xbox 360? I have an external hard drive connected to my xbox 360. I would like to play divx video files through my 360 to my TV. Problem is that I would have to have an internet connection to play the videos every time because of the media update which downloads the codec.

Is there a way to play videos without having my Xbox360 to be connected to the internet every time to download the media codec?
