Do I need to Lock my Steering Wheel when I tow my Truck even though the truck

has self locking when key's out? There are several questions within this question since this is my FIRST time doing this and no one in town seems to be of any help. The towing Truck is an Automatic; Would I need to take the DRIVE SHAFT off? Also...... this truck DOES LOCK when the key is OUT of the Ignition by turning the wheel just a little to the right/left. Would that be enough to Lock It in place and Tow It Away?! We will be driving over 1,000 Miles away into Texas... I will gladly appreciate your help, Thank You!!

Towing: 1973 GMC Sierra 1500 Standard Bed 350ci 5.7L Engine.
Towing with: 2004 Ford Expedition 5.4L with 6,000GVW Tow Bar
 
WOW. IF YOUR USING A TOW BAR YOU MUST KEEP THE STEERING UNLOCK ,OR IT WILL BE HARD TO STEER THE TRUCK THAT IS DOING THE TOWING AND MIGHT CAUSE A ACCIDENT. IF YOUR NEW GMC IS A 2 WHEEL DRIVE THEN TAKE THE DRIVE SHAFT OFF THE REAR AXL AND SECURE IT UNDER THE FRAME. BUT DO NOT PULL IT OUT OF THE TRANNY OR TRANNY OIL WILL COME OUT OF IT. IF IT A 4 WHEEL DRIVE REMOVE THE FROUNT SHAFT OUT. YOU WILL SEE THE A TRANFER CASE HAS A YOLK BOILTED ON IT SO IT WONT LEAK. NOW IF YOU DO THE LAZY MAN THING AND NOT REMOVE ANY THING THEN IDLE IT NEUTRAL WHEN TOWING IT, OR IT MIGHT WIPE OUT THE OUT PUT SHAFT BEARINGS AND OTHERS INTERNAL STUFF. GOOD LUCK. AND REMBER IF IT DOES NOT LOOK OR FEEL RIGHT IT PROBLEY NO RIGHT.
