Do I need to replace the throttle position sensor for my Jeep Cherokee?

My !999 Jeep (6cyl / 4.0) was running terrible so I put it on a computer. Throttle position sensor and cyl 6 miss fire was the code out put. I replaced a burnt plug because there was too small a gap. This solved the missfire problem but check engind lite is still on.
If it is running fine but the throttle position code is still coming up after clearing them, do I really have to replace it, or can it wait.
I can even totally unplug the throttle position sensor and it will run alright. I don't understand.
