I have a white powdery type mildew on the rafters in my loft. I only have 2 air vents and have been told by a roofer that i will need at least 4 more to increase the ventilation, Does this sound right?
I have been trying to find a reliable and honest roofer for months and i think the guy seems like he knows what hes talking about but im a little worried that i might need vents in the soffits too, although most houses dont have them in my area and some houses dont even have any vents?
He thinks the extra loft insulation has caused the roof to sweat hence why there is a powdery mildew. He says i dont need to clean it but i think i have to otherwise when he does put the extra vents in how will i know if the problem is alleviated? He then said he would clean it for an extra charge? What do people think?
I have been told i can clean it off with a bleach and water solution but id rather get my brother to do it as i dont like heights and im not convinced that he will do the job properly anyway as there is quite a bit to clean.
