Do the French appreciate other types of humour other than slapstick?

I was just wondering, what things influence french humour. I am aware that they probably appreciate more than slapstick humour, but I was wondering who are some french comediens, what other types of humour do the french find amusing.

Thank you in advance, my dad is constantly telling awful jokes in french and keeps inadvertently using curse words. I really need to give him so guidence!
