Do You Need A Magnet To BUILD a Electric Bell?

do you need to buy a magnet...like one off the fridge or sometimes to build a electric bell.
or do you just need peices of metal in the circut?
someone pleace exlain

Typically you need to make an electromagnet, which is just a coil of wire you can twist together with your hands. The magnetic field made by the coil needs to move a clapper which hits the bell. The clapper needs to be metal of the sort attracted to magnets - that is, it can't be aluminum for instance.

You need a source of alternating current. Get help if you're thinking of using power from a wall socket; there's a dangerous amount of power there.

In the referenced Wiki article, their "chime" has the coil of wire I described. Note that they use a transformer; it can lower the incoming voltage to something safe. Get help.
