Do you need to get a monthly plan for the ipad?

I was thinking about getting the ipad 2 for christmas. Do i need to get a monthly plan for this? anyone like or not like this product? I kind of feel like its just like a iphone or ipod touch but i dont know
 
No, you don't need a monthly plan. You can NOT get the 3G or 4G if you're gonna be using it mostly with/around shared wi-fi, eg starbucks etc, or even around your home, if you have a home wireless network (wireless router). However, if you're "on the go", and you find yourself stuck and you've not your ipad but no internet connection, you might wish you had a plan. For example your family takes a day trip to somewhere. There's no wi-fi in the car. Would be nice, in those cases, to have a plan if you want to access the interet. Hey, I hope this little bit helps you!
