Do you put chardonnay on ice?

Let me clarify my question....should you chill chardonnay? Not should you pour it over ice.
 
Goodness no!
Chill the bottle if you must, but pass on the ice, as it dilutes the body of the wine, and fades the bouquet.
 
I ice the bottle before serving to get it to the right temperature, about 58 degrees Fahrenheit.

That's true for most white wines (except dessert whites).
 
To some degree but not to a refrigerator temperature. The cold masks too much flavor in ANY beverage that actually has any. White wines are generally served too cold.

Conversely, flavorless beverages like mass produced Budweiser are purposely marketed to be served ice cold, precisely to hide the fact that they are practically water.
