his lectures...? ...and uses crude and sexist analogies.
I don't put up with any bad language on t.v., radio etc and I don't cuss, so should I have to put up with a lecturer who seems to lack either an efficient vocabulary or self-control? If no, what's the best way to make the complaint?
Just to add, I'm studying a particular discipline of complimentary medicine and the lecturer is a practioner in this particular field. I'm sure, as a professional, he wouldn't use such language with his patients, so why do so when lecturing?

You don't have the right to force a lecturer to do things as you would prefer, but if the behavior is so egregious that a normal person would agree that it was out of line, you can say something. Basically at that point it becomes harassment, because it creates an untenable environment for the students.

The first thing I would do would be to either speak to, or send a note to, the lecturer himself. Be very factual, but let him know exactly what has disturbed you. I have colleagues who grew up using profanity at home, and who don't think about it until a student lets them know that they are uncomfortable with it. They do care about their students, so they then stop.

If that doesn't work, the next step is the department head, who is this person's direct supervisor.

I will say that you have a better case if this is a required course or if you had no way of knowing what to expect until it was too late. If you chose to take this course voluntarily knowing that he had this reputation, you had the option NOT to take it, and don't have much to complain about.

this person has the right to freedom of speech you should know this. you must be a real religious person

good luck
