Do you think rants are annoying?

There was a forum that I posted a rant in, and everyone was saying "get over it, it's life...blah blah blah"

Just asking, do you think rants are annoying?
My close friend was telling me, "I don't rant to people because personally if someone was ranting to me, I would think it's annoying and I wouldn't care."
Do you feel the same way?

Personally I think ranting is what makes us human. I don't see why people refrain to rant, even if it is annoying. Is it better to bottle everything inside?

What are your views?
@ohSnap: I see where you're going...but I don't mean ranting to complete strangers. What if you were ranting to a person close to you? Would you expect him/her to care?
 
Ranting is not what makes you human, merely a consequence of you being a human who wants to rant. There are lots of people that don't rant, and they aren't any less human than the ones who do rant.

Personally, I find ranting to be extremely immature. Sure, you may have lost your boy/girlfriend, failed an exam, or whatever, but why should you expect others to listen to you and be interested? Kindness is a virtue, and these days, virtues are all optional. In other words, nobody is obliged to tolerate your rants. Furthermore, what does ranting accomplish? It may make you feel a little better for a bit, but after all the ranting, your problem still remains. Why not spend the time you spent on ranting on finding actual solutions to your problems instead of complaining to others about how unfair life is?
 
only if they are long and i don't like the topic. but really ranting is fine. it is a good way to vent anger or concern without hurting anyone.
 
I love to read other people's rants and apparently quite a few others do too. That's all blogs are... and I know of quite a few that have over 5000 hits a day so I know I'm not alone. What I don't like about some people's rants is when they start to over generalize...usually concerning a certain group of people (racial groups, sexual preference groups, etc). then it just becomes a huge bore.
