does anyone know if a 2GB card is a necessity for the LG Rumor?

I am getting the LG Scoop/Rumor from Alltel this week (ordered online) and I REALLY need to know if I absolutely HAVE to have the 2GB Card for it? will it still hold my pics and friends' numbers and my data without one?! THANKS SO MUCH!?
