does dawn dish soap lighten hair?

my hair is brown but pretty light, but i want it to be a little lighter. i heard that dawn dish soap can lighten hair..if you've done this method please tell me, does it work?
 
While Dawn will remove the oil from the hair, it shouldn't"t remove natural color. However, it can pull fake color out of hair. If you color your hair with "hair color", a harsh shampoo or Dawn dish Liquid, can pull some of the color out.
 
Please please please don't put dish soap in your hair!! Its extremely damaging, and it will dry it out like crazy, for a lighter colour without the dye, try Sun-In. You can find it at just about any drugstore and will lighten your hair more than dish soap ever will.
