I currently have directv and decided to switch to dish network. The dish representative told me that they do not charge for local channels and offered an hd receiver free of charge. I constantly asked if there was an extra charge, equipment fee, rental free, or something, and he assured me that there is no additional fee. I even insisted what would be included on my monthly bill and he said that the $29.99 of the package plus whatever state tax had to be charged.

Well, when I called the directv representative to cancel, this guy offered me so much stuff to stay with them and when I still insisted on cancelation he told me that dish charges $5 for local channels and $10 per month for the hd receiver. I told him that I was told by dish that that was not true and the directv guy said that they were lying. So I'm putting the cancellation on hold. Who's right and who's wrong?

package price for dish includes local channels.. you received a dish network hd upgrade for free but that does not include the hd package. I have installed both for years, a salesman is a salesman.
The salesman gave you a free hd receiver, doesn't mean you will get the hd programming for free.
You would not believe the lies sales people have told my customers over the years, and that's from both companies. I suggest looking for a local dealer for dish network. Going to their office and being told something will be free verses over the telephone is completely different. The guy you go to knows he can't get away with lying as easy, you know where he is...lol Look in your phone book for local dealers'
