Today we had a debate in class if rap is actually music. I said yes but there is no swaying ignorant people. I need some solid examples of rap songs that would be "music".
For example, rap songs that have instruments playing or where the rappers voices have a sing-song quality

This begs the question What is music?

My definition of music is organised sound. Rap and Hiphop very much fits this category, it just focusses more on rhythm than melody.

There are also instruments in hiphop - the best example of a hiphop group that uses real instruments is The Roots.

However if you really want an example of 'sing-song' rapping, look no further than Otha Fish, by the Pharcyde. Amazing track.

More like ravings. The song "because I got high" Is a perfect example of stupidity. It is at best a very primitive form of music. Wayyy less complex than Classical. Mozart no doubt had a far greater IQ than any rapper.

im sorry about your class I HATE IGNORANT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Rap is music, music can be anything there is no limit to what can be considered music. Just because someone doesn't enjoy it doesn't make it "not music".

rap isn't music. it's entertainment. NO ONE goes to a rapper like jayz, tupac, biggie, 50 cent, common, lupe fiasco, etc to listen to the music and the voice.

you listen to them b/c they do dumb things, do fun dances, put on cool beats made on someone's laptop, and the videos have hot hoes and cars... and the computerized beats are catchy. it's not music babe, it's entertainment!

all rap is music, as long as the instrumentations has melodies, notes, and measures. Drum machines and turntables are instruments too... Singing doesn't qualify or disqualify a song from being music...

you want some examples...

and you don't even need singing or rapping for a song to be music

haha WOW. was that debate a class discussion or was it just within you and some people? if that's what your teacher is having you debate in class, she/he is moronic

instruments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVeIJv1l0jw

sing-song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjcTcb7kSTw

though i don't understand why "instruments" and "sing-song voices" deem something as "real music"

Many of the songs on the lists of people in that question should qualify.

Don't talk about mainstream artists. They won't listen if you use Eminem and Lil Wayne as an example.

@SebringNewCastle - Did you just say Lupe & Common "do dumb things, do fun dances, put on cool beats made on someone's laptop, and videos have hot hoes and cars"?? Have you even heard one of their tracks? Stop generalizing you ignorant punk, turn the f*cking radio off..
