Does reinstalling Blackberry phone OS wipe everything from the phone? I.e....

...messages and call history? The title is self expalnatory really.
But I am in need of help with this as I am unsure wether or not the phone has been wiped clean or not.
 
If you wipe the phone all data is gone but if you back up your phone with Desktop Manager or BlackBerry Protect you can restore the data after you wipe it.

If you are simply upgrading your device software no data is erased.
