I have never paid any attention to critics movie reviews before, but today I decided to read Ebert's review of a movie I was watching. The review contained several factual errors. I was surprised by this so I read 10 more of his movie reviews and found half of them contained errors. His reviews give me the impression that he carefully watches some of the movies he reviews, but doesn't pay any attention to others.

Your opinion?
Oh yeah, I should have added that all of these reviews were at least five years old. I didn't mean to pick on his illness. Oops
And I was only referring to factual errors. Like when he talks about a big, crumbling gothic mansion - in a movie that doesn't have one, anywhere.

He always watches the movies he reviews. I think he may well pay more attention to some movies than others. I don't think he has a choice in movies he watches and he has probably seen every movie cliche in existence countless times. His personal reaction is a legitimate part of being a critic. No critic is perfect, though. They make mistakes all the time, but Ebert really cares. He isn't just someone who knows a movie will be a hit or knows what other critics are going to say, so he just goes along with the flow. He can surprise you. He is an insightful critic.
