I have posted this in another section, but thought maybe psychology might also be an acceptable category being that it involves the reptilian brain vs. the frontal lobes.
I am a sociology major and in my work I've come across the horrible epidemic of sex trafficking. I would like to put the focus on the United States. It has come to my attention through legitimate research that children as young as 9, although more often entering at age about age 12, are being brought into our country along with children and women from our own country to be used in sex trafficking. It has gotten bad enough that a man, typically being between 15 and all the way up to age 90, cannot know if the stripper in front of him is being used due to the smile the slave has to put on her (most often this is a case involving young girls and women) face. A man cannot know if the prostitute he is using is 15 and a willing party to this due to how the traffickers present the girl, for example. Even at an age of legal consent, this could very well be a woman who's family is under threat or a situation involving some sort of blackmail. On that note, this is a form of rape. Is a man who takes part in the consuming of the sex industry guilty of rape if he goes into a transaction well-knowing that no matter what the presentation, this could be a girl or woman under the reigns of fear and survival? The new knowledge I've accumulated is so terribly sad and frightening...one report stated that if the consumers do not consume, there would be no industry for this sort of crime against humanity. Do you think that taking the chance that you could be severely hurting another human being is worth it? Do you support the sex industry with full knowledge that you could be supporting sex trafficking in the process?
