Does this trend of comparing activities to drugs hold ground, in your view?

Oversimplified and glamorized and sensationalized, in that order. Makes you wonder if they were sober at the time they come up with those things. Foolish.
 
I recently saw a TV program comparing reading Agatha Christie novels to drug addiction. I've seen this for amusement park rides and romance before too. It seems to be a recent trend. How do you respond to the notion [If I can induce a certain neurochemical activity, this creates an addiction that is like a drug addiction]?
