Does this trend of comparing activities to drugs hold ground, in your view?

Did you know there's also a correlation between crime and ice cream sales? The more ice cream that is sold, the higher the crime.

My point, is that there is no relation but there might be some outlandish correlation. The reason crime goes up when ice cream sales goes up is because ice cream sales go up when it's summer time and more crimes are committed in the summer because people are outside and causing trouble. When it's really cold, people are inside more including criminals.
 
I recently saw a TV program comparing reading Agatha Christie novels to drug addiction. I've seen this for amusement park rides and romance before too. It seems to be a recent trend. How do you respond to the notion [If I can induce a certain neurochemical activity, this creates an addiction that is like a drug addiction]?
