Does verizon take down info on where you got your phone specifically?

I bought a phone off of ebay and let a verizon employee know. Then I was told that they now have that on record and will be deprived of some things. Is this true?

Yes becuase you didnt but it directly from them. So if it breaks or stops working or anything like that they wont do much.
